Report on 10th Annual Newchurch Gales Shoot.
The 10th Annual Newchurch Gales sporting clay shoot took place on Saturday 4th September 2003 at Wacklands Farm, Newchurch with the support
of Gales Brewery, The Pointer Inn,
Newchurch and Southern Haylage.
18 teams, including 5 from the
mainland took part and a total of 80 competitors shot the 50 6 bird stand
layout. Once more the course used the terrain and aided by super weather proved
entertaining and challenging.
The Pointer Inn Trophy for top team went to Danny’s Boys wit h Nigel Frampton their top scorer with 42/50. Their team score of 148/200 being
5 better than their previous
years score.
2nd place was taken by Pittis
Pirates on their first attendance at the shoot with A Walsh being their top gun
with 39/50. Team score 139/200.
3rd place went Gales Brewery No 2 team with Nick Carter returning in 39/50 and a team score of 130/200.
Bowcombe came in 4th with Duane Hart producing 39/50 and a team score of 130/200
Team Bishops always good
performers returned 129/200 but Dan Bishop with 46 was Top gun for the whole event 4 clear of the
next best shot.
It was nice to have such a turnout including several Juniors, and Ladies guns. Top Lady was Jayne King with 29/50.
Jim Ede again taking top Side by Side with 31.
The Frank Salmon Memorial Shield
was awarded to the most promising young shot. The award going to Luke Chessel
37/50 for the second year running.
The day was rounded off with
a buffet lunch at the Pointer Inn and presentation of trophies and prizes provided by Gales Brewery
